On 3 September 2014, Prof. Yutaka MICHIDA, Vice Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, Member of National Committee of IOC, University of Tokyo, visited UNESCO/IOC Regional Training and Research Center on Ocean Dynamics and Climate (UNESCO/IOC-ODC center) hosted by the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), State Oceanic Administration of China. On behalf of UNESCO/IOC-ODC center, Dr. Xunqiang Yin from FIO introduced the progresses of ODC center including its establishment, operational work, main activities and achievements, and the future plans. The participants discussed the medium and long-term planning, the organization of workshop and research, sources of fund, the selection of subjects and lecturers, procedures of annually training course and improvements during previous training. Two visiting experts fully affirmed the increasing impact of UNESCO/IOC-ODC center in the global region and set a high value on the achievement of training for 169 trainees from 26 countries. In the future, they hope young scientists from Japan could be accepted by UNESCO/IOC-ODC center to join the training courses and experts on Climate Change/Models from Japan will be recommended as the lecturers for training course in ODC center. Through this kind of cooperation, the network of UNESCO/IOC Regional Training and Research Center will provide more benefits to young scientists in IOC member countries.
